BASIC COACHING
So what exactly is the BASIC Coaching Method?
Here are the four key elements that unleash the power of every conversation...
The BASIC Steps
Our unique coaching approach follows these steps and is all about asking the right questions
Background What’s on your mind? What is the real challenge here? What’s working well?
Aim What do you want? What’s the timescale? What will be the benefit?
Strategy What are your options? And what else? Which will work best?
Implementation What are your first steps? When will you taken them? What tactics may be needed?
Commitment Will you do this? What could stop you? What can you do about this?
The BASIC Qualities
The four most powerful 'ways of being' that make you great to talk with
Build Trust Underpins all effective conversations
Remain Curious Avoiding judgement means colleagues are more open to reflection, learning and change
Show Empathy Builds relationship and connection which is at the heart of engagement and a positive climate
Stay Positive Keeps a focus on what's posible and builds optimism and motivation to keep improving
The BASIC Habits
Four simple yet powerful conversational habits
Ask First Stops you jumping in with solutions before giving colleagues the opportunity to devise their own way forward first
Frame Well Enables you to ask questions in a way that gets colleagues thinking hard and positively
Listen Hard Show you are listening, create empathy and hear what's not being said
Play Back Builds rapport, enables you to check for understanding and prompts more thinking
BASIC Feedback
A great way to give feedback that leads to focused areas for improvement and a clear way forward
Make Connection With the person so they are open to reflection and learning and with the right goals to make them more effective
